Empathy part 1: Why being empathetic is expensive?

Empathy

Noun. the ability to understand and share other’s feelings.

True empathy feels like a warm hug. It almost does not matter where it comes from. The soul knows when the heart is being genuine. It makes life worth living when we know that someone understands us.

The thing is, too many people pretend to be empathetic and have zero idea of what you are going through. It feels like charity empathy. Doing it to make oneself feel better because it is seen as good deed.

Anyway –

Truth is: We can’t all relate to everybody’s struggles; it isn’t possible to live multiple lives in one lifetime. And oh! Did I mention how expensive acquiring true empathy can be?

The price of empathy

To be truly empathetic, requires you to go through the same trials and tribulations of life where you find yourself in those valley moments and wonder to yourself where the light at the end of the tunnel is? So when you meet someone going through the same stuff, you know exactly how they feel.

This is the price of true empathy.

And when you meet someone and sense their deepest desire to help others, you will also know that they have paid their pound in flesh, tears and snot. That is what never gets mentioned. Too many of us think some of us are born this way! No. Life shapes people to be the way that they are. Hardship either strengthens us to push forward; at the same time,  softens us to be more compassionate to another human.

So when we meet a gentle soul with rough edges, know that they were a diamond in the rough, chiseled and shaped by circumstances. They truly know how unequal life can be.
