The Power of Choice: Embracing Growth Over Comfort

I write essays about human connection, hope and finding healing. All of my essays are either found by existing and experiencing life for all that it is. Or they have been inspired by connections and conversations.

Why the path of least resistance is so alluring

Each and everyone of us on God’s green earth would love nothing more than to have a life with minimal challenges. We all desire a life full of ease and comfort. It is part of human conditioning.

Why strive if you don’t have to? Why traverse the narrow path?

Why?WhyWhy?

The path of least resistance is the path that lures us in with (what we find out later) little returns. There is a cost to every decision (or indecision).

And the path of least resistance is so alluring because it asks so very little of us. There is very little accountability or responsibility. It feels like an adult playground for life. It promises us all the things that we ever hoped and dreamt of (and seemingly more).

But many of us did not read the T&C’s when we signed up for this path. We just saw the glittering light and the promises of great things.

I don’t usually like to quote other people to make my point, but I will, for this essay.

“A man who procrastinates in his choosing will inevitably have is choices made for him” Hunter S Thompson

This is very applicable when we have to make tough choices that will bring peace and healing into our lives. A stable relationship and the ability to handle your emotions. It does not come from a place of fun and comfort. This is not to say that life does not give us reprieve, but some of us avoid challenges and difficult choices like it is leprosy.

No great thing is achieved in comfort. No courage or bravery was found sitting on your couch.

Inside each and everyone of us, is a desire to grow and be a better version of ourselves. But we cannot ask for greatness without being challenged. That’s not life, that’s call – daydreaming.

Life is a series of choices, and the rewards are wrapped up in trials. And when we pass the test of life; the reward shall be received. That’s the secret nobody wants to hear.

If you want magic in your life ….

You have to create it. No one knows you like you know yourself.

No one can make it happen, but you. There will be no motivational coach to uplift your spirits, if your desire is not great enough (to change). Life is – a one chance game. Regret hangs around like that relative that asked to camp at your place for a week and five years later, they are still there.

And … Nothing is possible without your permission.

Everything we want …

In my observation of people, I have noticed that many would rather stick to the things that they know. It is safe.

Growth. Just the polar opposite. Full of fear and uncertainties. Just that.

There will always be a price to pay for the things that will enrich our lives in ways we never imagine.

and …

Choice is a powerful tool that we all have, but too many give it away to comfort and ease. Because what the heart really wants, looks like work.

If only we knew how much gifts and potential are waiting for us to be discovered –

Maybe the fear wouldn’t be so great. For change takes faith.
